Who is Saifullah Humraaz?
Saifullah Khan, popularly known as Saifullah Humraaz, is a renowned Khow poet. His writings are full of the myriad beauty of the linguistic and cultural sensibilities of Chitral. He was born in Torkhow Washich Mehtin a rural village of Chitral. Saifullah grew up as the seventh of eight siblings in a household that faced tragedies most of the time. His family suffered significant losses during his lifetime. Elder brother, Muhammad Rahim, committed suicide on February 28, 1997. His youngest brother, Jameel Ahmed, lost his life in a car accident on February 21, 2019, at the Torkhow Ujnu Bridge. These personal tragedies deeply impacted Saifullah’s poetic voice, as depth and emotional resonance were added to his work. He shares attachments as a friend to other poets of his age like Abdulla Shahab, Zareef Munawar Uz Zaman, and Wasi Hussain Ilhan. Hamraz used to read poets like Baba Siyar, and Zakir Zakhmi in his early time.
Educational Journey of Saifullah Humraaz
Saifullah initiated his education at Government Primary School Washich. Then he completed his matriculation from Arif Public School Washich with marks good enough for further studies. His qualifications also include F.Sc. Pre-Medical and a BA in Elective English from Government Degree College Chitral. He pursued his passion for language and literature to achieve an MA in English Literature and Applied Linguistics at Qurtaba University of Science and Information Technology, Hayatabad, Peshawar.

Professionally, Saifullah Humraaz has proven to be an excellent teacher and administrator. He served as a Subject Teacher in Peshawar College of Science before taking on the assignment of Cadet College Choa Saiden Shah in Chakwal, Punjab, on May 10, 2015. Currently, he performs the functions of Lecturer (BPS 17) and director of academics.
Saifullah’s literary career started in 2004, but by 2005 he started as a very effective literary presenter from his village. The poetry of Saifullah, especially his ghazals, initially gained him public recognition at local mushairas. His lyrical mastery and themes aroused powerful emotions in the crowds.

Hamraz is an active member of many literary organizations, one of which is the Chitral Student Cultural Development Organization (CSCDO) and Hamraz serves as patron in chief. Saifullah is also the General Secretary of Yak Zaban Karawan-e-Adab (Yaka) and an honorary member of Anjuman Taraqi Khowar constituency Trich and Anjuman Taraqi-e-Khowar Torkhow. Moreover, he was the chief editor of the student magazine Phunar when he was at Degree College Chitral. He also served as a member of Anjuman Taraqye Khowar Halqa Peshawar.

The first poem by Saifulah Humraaz is very attractive and so simple, it’s;
اوا عاشق نوع زمانو” is a comic poem based on a mid-21st century romantic generation. Another poem is;
تہ پوشی باغو گلاب سف بونی حیران گل”
تہ نشیرو بوحت متین تخت سلیمان گل
ہیس ہتے ہمرازا رے کیاوت کی ہش راسوس
ہتیسوم کیا نی بیتی ہاردی مہ چھمان گل
Translation:
“All the roses in the garden would be astonished by your beauty
I will regard the stone as Solomon’s throne when you take your rest upon it
Ever since you asked about my name
After that, I don’t know why, but my heart has started aching”.
