The Djoua River is flowing in the republic of Congo and the Gabon. It can also be spelled as Djouah or Djouab. It is a branch or tributary of the Ivindo River. The river originates from the Congo and drains towards west. The river also make a portion of boundary between gabon and the republic of Congo. It is also a major tributary of Ogooue River.

The Djoua River is also a part of the drainage system of the Ogooue River. After the Congo, Niger, and Zambezi, the Ogooue River is the fourth largest in Africa in terms of flowing volume.

If you travel in the river through boat, you will come across the flooded raffia forest which is a green jungle. The Djoua is a remote river and it will takes two to three days to reach the river while passing through the jungle. In the vicinity of river you will see a big hornbills flying above your head. In the forest you will also find the grey parots that chatters over there.

The forest also has monkeys, living near the river, climbing and jumping in the trees. After travelling some distance in the river, you will reach to a fishing camp, where you can set your tents and stay.

Local Communities of the Djoua River

There is a family who has made the camp. The purpose of the camp is fish trading where they sell fishes to traders. Although fishing is not more here, but there are some issues, as many fishermen use illegal methods. There is also a confrontation between groups on the issue of boundaries.

The people living in the forms of communities, on the banks of river. They are headed by their chiefs. They have a limited life where there is no education or other activities for children. So, they need a development in that regard. Also, people are doing ivory smuggling which is illegal.

To develop the region, a proper fishing arrangements are needed which are free from ivory smuggling. By doing these arrangements, the communities will have large amount of fishes for business and eating purposes.
